pORTWINE MAGNOLIA IS BUDDING BUT BUDS DON'T SEEM TO BE STRONG AND THEY FALL OFF

THE TREE IS HUGE PLENTY OF BUDS BUT WHEN BUDS ARE VERY GENTLY TOUCHED THEY JUST FALL TO PIECES. IT GET A SMALL AMOUNT OF MORNING SUN. SHOULD I APPLY FERTILISER AND WHICH ONE. When the previous tennant moved out, the yard was demolished and the tree hacked, is it suffering trauma. Lovely new growth is appearing at the bottom of the tree.

Answer: Hi Sandy,If the port wine magnolia is suffering from stress you could apply Yates Uplift which is a new product that contains seaweed, Fulvic Acid and Bio-active beneficial soil microbes. This will help stimulate root growth. As the weather warms up then a controlled release fertiliser such as Garden Gold can be applied. The flowers are quite tight buds when they develop however once open the petals will fall easily.
