Medium_img_1765 Fiddle leaf fig tree is loosing all the top leaves while growing new ones on the bottom. Are these killing it?

My Fiddle leaf fig tree is dying. It is about 5ft tall. It is loosing all the top leaves ( getting brown and falling off) But new small leaves are growing at the bottom. What is happening?

Answer: Hi Aly,

Thank you for contacting Yates.

An easy way to check if plants are still alive is to scratch the stem. For a living tree, this should be lime green, in a dead tree it is dry and brown. If it’s brown, prune off the stem and feed to tree with some liquid fertiliser to encourage more new growth.

Try Dynamic Lifter Liquid Concentrate. It’s a organically certified fertiliser, which contains seaweed, blood&bone and fish meal to help developing new roots and restoring healthy growth. Click here for more info: http://www.yates.com.au/products/fertilising/organic-based/dynamic-lifter-liquid-concentrate

Also, try to improve the pot drainage and make sure the roots are not sitting in water.

Hope this helps and happy gardening.

Best Regards,
Louise
