Query regarding mulching of a bed of iris.

Hi. Have just completed weeding a large bed of iris and am wondering if I can mulch the bed now in order to avert the problem of weeding it again a a later date.?

Answer: Hi Ruth,

Thank you for contacting Yates.

It all depends on the Iris variety that is in the garden bed. If you have bearded Iris’ then you will need to ensure that the mulch that you place around these plants don’t cover the rhizomes.

Otherwise, mulching the area now will be beneficial in assisting you in maintaining some control of those weeds as well as assisting to keep the moisture in the soil in the hotter weather.
