Wilzen
New buds have started falling off semi advanced magnolia little gem, one after the other.

We've transplanted semi advance magnolia little gem to our yard 3wks ago. Now the buds are falling off, help! We noticed that the new buds have started falling off one after the other. As of the moment, there aren't any buds incould see whereas before we transplanted them there were 4-6new buds (green-brown, looked like light bulbs with 'thorns') it's our first time to plant magnolias

Answer: Hello Wilzen,

As with most plants, flowers are often one the first parts of the plant to be aborted due to stress.

Transplanting is a very stressful experience for a plant – especially when semi-advanced or mature. As such, your experience is to be expected. Do consider for the longer term whether any additional stresses might be at play, such as soil or moisture issues. Check your soil pH is in the right range for your variety (around pH 5.0 to 6.0).

In future, you may benefit from settling-in transplanted trees with some Yates Waterwise Soil Wetter (concentrate or hose-on).

Kind regards,

Matt
