Tropical plants suitable for coastal Perth

I live very close to the Coast in North Beach. There is a lot of limestone in the garden and it is very windy. I have been trying for ages to establish a lush, tropical-looking garden but with little success. Can you tell me what plants I can use to achieve this effect. Thank you so much.

Answer: Hi Paula, this sounds like a real challenge as lush tropical gardens will not thrive in the extremes of exposed coastal locations with sandy alkaline soils. I wouldnt be too hopeful here, but local nursery horticulturists may be able to offer some good local advice or some more achievable alternatives for your area.
