Medium_nuggles58_bloom Plant thought to be Mimosa but just bloomed & has yellow bottlebrush like flower. Any ideas of actual name?

I have a plant that I believed to be a small Mimosa, leaves look correct and they close up at night. But, has just flowered and the bloom has come out looking like a bottlebrush. Have tried looking through the net to find a similar plant but no such luck. Stands about 1m tall at present and living in a pot. Would like to find out exact if possible as would like to put into garden and need to know where it is best suited.

Answer: Hi Tracey,
Your plants is Prospois juliflora (possibly var. inermis – meaning thornless). It’s common name is the Mequite and it is used as a fodder crop, charcoal and light weight timber. It is known to be an invasive plant and has caused a lot of problems across Australia. There is more information here:

Probably the best advice is to destroy it sadly.

Kind regards
Ben
