Ian
My apple tree has had a wooly wax scale for some time. It is flowering now. It also has a lot of woody gauls

It was heavily pruned pruned mid-winter and the saw cuts were painted with a tree bitumen. If I prune the gauls I'll lose most of the tree. The dauls are 25mm and bigger. The bark around the main trunk appears ".flakey"

Answer: Hi Ian,

Thank you for contacting us.

To control woolly wax scale on your apple tree you can use Nature’s Way Citrus & Ornamental Spray.

However we do not have a registered product for controlling galls. Currently, the most effective way is to cut off the parts/branches/stems affected by galls and dispose them in the rubbish bin. We understand you might not be able to prune all the affected parts during this period of time, however you can do so in stages or all at once during winter.

For the long run we would suggest to feed the tree to keep it healthy and disease resistant by apply Dynamic Lifter Organic Plant Food followed with Thrive Citrus & Fruit Liquid Plant Food (especially during flowering and fruiting).

Hope this information is helpful, if you have further queries do let us know.

Kind regards,

Eric
