Answer: Hi Catharina, some (but not all) dogs are notorious for eating just about anything, and any lawn food – organic or inorganic- can cause illness if eaten in large amounts compared to body weight. Biggest problems occur when the full bag is left out and large amounts are consumed.

The safest option is to use a liquid every month throughout the growing season, such as thrive All Purpose hose-on, as there will ne no residue left on the grass.

Dynamic Lifter granular for lawns applied spring and autumn is also very good but you must make sure it is very well watered to dissolve the organic granules into the grass so it cannot be eaten by dogs. Same applies to inorganic granular lawn foods, but they can be slower to dissolve and may need more water.

With any garden product it is vital to observe animal behavior and prevent ingestion, but lawn foods when applied at the correct rate and watered in very well rarely cause any issues. Small dogs need to be observed more closely.
