Gail
Acmena lilly pilly berries have black spots on them and when touched, fall off. Shrub only 5ft.

I am not a gardener and have little time to spend in garden, so if this shrub gets diseased too much should i get rid of it.

Answer: Dear Gail,

Without more information on the problem you have with your Acmena hedge, it is difficult to know if it is being attacked by a pest or if it is suffering from fungal attack.

Usually Acmenas are a faily hardy plant but they do get attacked by various insects such as scale and psyllid. You don’t mention where they are planted in your garden, how much sun they receive and whether the area is well drained. If the plants are not improving, you can always take a sample down to your local nursery who should be able to diagnose the problem or if you prefer give us more information and email a photo so we can better diagnose the problem.

Your shrubs are certainly worth saving and I am sure with the correct treatment they will recover and be a part of your garden.
