Answer: Dear Nelli,

Gardenias are extremely heavy feeders and do need to be fed on a regular basis. Yellow leaves will indicate nutrient deficiency with minerals such as iron or magnesium being in short supply, so if you haven’t already applied a complete fertiliser to your gardenias, apply some now to give your plants the necessary nutrients they will need to produce green healthy foliage and encourage flowering.

The black spot on the leaves could indicate a fungal problem or if it is a black spot that you can remove, then it is likely to be brown scale. Check your plants for insects and ensure that the soil is well drained.
