Concerns orchids. I have a Cymbidium indoors. Do I need to keep up lots of water to it while it is in flower?

Answer: The amount of water your flowering cymbidium needs will depend upon the type of media in which it is growing and the temperature inside your home.
If your orchid is potted into a sandy loamy mix, as opposed to a heavy bark mix,it will need more watering. Also, if your house is heated or air conditioned you will need to water the plant more regularly.
To determine when to water your cymbidium, test the moisture level by inserting your finger into the media also pick the pot up and look at the media through the drainage holes. If it is dry – water the plant, if still moist, delay watering.
The weight of the pot also gives away its moisture level. Dry media will weigh less than heavy, water-laden media.
