Meryl
I am having a problem with Nerine bulbs in a pot.

Each year before the flower buds come up something eats them completely off under the soil. How can I prevent this happening?

Answer: Hi Meryl,

It is possible that it is the lily caterpillar that is causing this damage. This caterpillar is related to the cutworm and does considerable damage to many strappy leaf plants. They are black and yellow in appearance. Once you notice them, spray with a contact spray i.e. Pyrethrum and once the foliage appears, continue to spray with a product such as Success to keep the situation under control for a prolonged period of time.
