June
Can you tell me the name of a tuber that looks very much like a black carrot. It's in bloom now, but dies back after flowering. It has masses of multi coloured flowers and produces hard black seeds that germinate well. It appears to be drought tolerant.

Answer: Hi June, this hardy plant, Mirabilis jalapa, is called ‘marvel of Peru’ or the ‘four-o’clock flower’ because the blooms open in the late afternoon and fill the air with perfume. It has weed potential so be careful about where the seeds can end up.
