Caterpillars are eating my silver princess eucalyptus tree. Help. Diane

Australian Natives • Pests

Hi Diane,

It could be larvae of a sawfly that is eating the foliage on your eucalypt. This pest is very active at this time of the year. There is a product registered to control sawfly larvae called Yates Baythroid, Lawn Grub and Insecticide. Baythroid is a synthetic pyrethroid which is a fast acting contact insecticide with long last residual activity at low doses. Spray the upper and lower leaves of the plant and if necessary repeat the spray if caterpillars reappear.
