What sort of lawn is best suited to WA conditions?

The soil is very hard and stony, but I would be happy to do work to improve the soil quality.

Lawns • Weeds

Hi Anne,

Couch grass is more suitable for the northern parts of Australia including the Pilbara region. Soil preparation prior to laying the lawn will be very important. Try to remove as many rocks and stones as possible and then apply a layer of soil/sand mix. Mix in some water crystals in the soil mix prior to laying the lawn. Water well during the establishment phase. I have attached an article on laying a new lawn from the Yates website for your interest. Lawn I would also suggest you look around at the neighbouring lawns and see what is growing the best and is therefore more suitable in the tough climatic conditions experienced in the Pilbara region.
