Weed in front Buffalo lawn

I have a buffalo lawn. During winter a weed grows under a large weeping cherry which has lost its leaves. I have used weed and feed, resorting to digging out by hand with no success. It is clumping and affecting an area about 1 square meter at the moment. Can you tell me what this weed is and do you have a treatment for it?

Lawns • Weeds

Hello Terry, this looks likely to be crab grass. Unfortunately we don't have a registered product to control this plant. To reduce the chance of application to any wanted plants, hand application of a product will be your best chance. Try 'Yates Zero Weedkiller Super Concentrate' as a spot spray, or paint on with the 'Yates Zero Weeding Brush'. Please use caution when using the weedkiller near other plants/lawn, because everything that it touches could potentially kill.

Ideally, you'd be best mulching over the area, to reduce the chance of weed seeds popping up and what does come up will be easier to control. You can select a natural chip that matches with the aesthetics of your garden that will look great when the cherry is/isn't in flower!
