What's best lawn to grow from seed in Newcastle? Lawn is in full sun, light foot traffic
Lawns • Lawn
Seed germination is highly dependent on moisture and temperature.
The best time of year to sow lawn seed is in Autumn and Spring. Wait until the ground is warm and daily temperatures are consistently over 20 degrees.
Winter can be too cool.
Lawn seed can be sown in Summer, however, in order to keep the seeds moist at all times, the seed may need to watered 5 to 7 times per day, for a period of 10 to 14 days.
The most important thing with lawn seed is that you ensure the top 1cm of soil is moist at all times. If it dries out, it will die and you will be left with patches.
Try to keep the area free of any foot traffic for the first three months to ensure best results. Fencing off the area would be ideal, but not always possible.
Couch lawn is a good warm season lawn. It is hard wearing and copes well with foot traffic.
