Can you eat self seeded parsley plants?

My self seeded parsley plant has grown in full sun by the tank and recently has had this new growth with strange elongated leaves. They smell like parsley when crushed but I'm wanting to see if it's still safe to eat seeing I've never seen this shaped leaf before for parsley.

Some people say that once you get a parsley plant you have on for life. This is because they are so good at self seeding. The other thing you need to keep in mind when you are growing plants from seed is that there may be some genetic variation. It seems that your parsley has developed a mutation which has lead to these leaves. It might also be an older gene expressing itself again. As long as you are sure that this is self seeded parsley and not another plant which has come up in its place it is safe to eat.
