How do I remove slaters from my compost tumbler

i have many years experience of successful composting. How did this happen and what should i do?

General Advice • Pests

Hi Margaret,

How disappointing to find slaters in your compost tumbler. I would say it has something to do with the moisture level in your tumbler. It is important to have the correct carbon-nitrogen ration and that the compost be kept moist and not too wet. Perhaps the slaters are present because the compost is too wet. Check out the moisture level and if necessary add some more dry material to make it less inviting for the slaters. If the population of slaters is too great and the compost too heavily infested, it might be a good idea to start again and dispose of the slaters. Good luck.
