The tree looks good and producing fruit as normal but the splitting is increasing up the stems.

Hi Trish,
That doesn't look too good. very often it's either a nutritional deficiency, something like Boron perhaps.
The tree will fruit well if it's under stress as a last resort most commonly.
You can try to help it by feeding it up and ensuring it has sufficient water in dried times, but I suspect it may be time to think of a new tree.
Yates Thrive Natural Citrus & Fruit Pelletised Plant Food will help. If it's in a pot, then reduce the feed strength by half.
