Why is my new teddy bear magnolia tree leaves going brown and curling up

Planted in early August with gypsum, compost and original soil mixed together as per instructed from nursery. Started to show some signs of stress in Sept, added seaweed booster and watered frequently. Might be overwatering. Gets morning sun as facing East right through until after lunch. Water well built up to ensure water is received and soaks. Clay soil though so holds moisture

Hi Sean,

Thank you for sending the photos. It is hard to imagine how these trees could have deteriorated in such a short period of time. They are such beautiful trees and I am sure this is very disappointing for you to see them like this. I can't imagine that over-watering would cause this damage. The foliage looks like it has been burnt. Would you have experienced extreme hot weather lately? Is there any possibility that the plants have been sprayed with something like a herbicide? Wish I could help you more.
