Why are the flowers on my star jasmine dying

Some the new shoots have turned brown and died and some of the larger leaves look burnt on the edges. We have had a few sunny days recently in Perth after a lot of rain but no warmer than 22/23 degrees. There are plenty of buds ready to bloom but wanted to check if this is something to worry about?

Hi Nicky,

It is obviously not dry/hot conditions that have caused the new shoots to turn brown with older leaves looking brown around the edges. It is possible that it could be red spider that is causing this damage. Red spider is tiny and difficult to see with the naked eye. You might like to spray your star jasmine with a product called Yates Nature's Way Vegie & Herb Spray Concentrate. If they are present, this product will smother and kill them off. To assist the plant to recover, regular applications of Dynamic Lifter Liquid would be beneficial for your vine. Keep your plant watered well particularly during the hot summer months.
