As the plant leaves have been chewed through, it's likely there might be some soil born pests such as curl grubs feeding on the roots and causing parcially diebacks. To control try soil drench the plant with 'eco-neem'. It's registered for the control of a broad range of chewing and sucking insects including: caterpillars, curl grubs, grasshoppers (wingless), aphids, mites, lawn armyworm, citrus leafminer, whitefly, mealybugs and fungus gnats.
