Why isn't my Michelin figo (Lady of the Night) not flowering?

Hi, We live in Sydney and in Oct 2012, planted a Michelin figo (Lady of the Night) plant but to date it still hasn't flowered. We see heaps of small tiny buds but they never seem to open and over time they just drop off then more come but still never any flowers?? Can anyone advise what we can do?

Hi Kim,

The tree looks like you might need to give it a boost. Give your Michelia a good feed with a good general purpose fertiliser like Yates Dynamic Lifter which is a slow release. make sure there is plenty of drainage and move the scoria from around the trunk of your tree, this may help flowering in spring.
