Fixing up my neglected garden
NaomiB is talking about growing Carrot, Peas, Broadbeans, Beetroot from Central Coast
I neglected my garden for two weeks. Partly, because it rained so much I didn’t want to go outside and then I caught a cold and couldn’t drag myself off the couch.
In that time, most of the carrots drowned and so did most of the beetroot; the snow peas don’t seem to know which way is up and some of them look like creatures larger than bugs have been playing with them; the broad beans are growing like crazy, although some of them are covered in what look like ants.
This morning I sorted it all out in what I’m sure was an amateurish sort of way.
I dug up the last surviving carrot to make room for replanting the broad beans and then I replanted the broadbeans so they’d have more room to grow and used the hose to wash off the bugs.
I dug up and put aside the three worst looking snow pea plants, firmed up the snow pea frame and rearranged the plants so they looked to be growing up it (we’ll know by next week if they’ve taken the hint).
I felt sorry for the carrot plant, so I replanted it back among the broadbeans. If it survives that, I’ll let it live.
I’m ignoring the beetroot. There’s only one left from 24.
I’ve attached photos of before and after I fixed up the snow pea and broad bean situation – if you look closely you can just see the tip of the carrot in the broad bean photo. There isn’t a photo of the beetroot, it’s too disappointing.
