Tips for Re-potting herbs

  1. Water plants and drain thoroughly before repotting.
  2. Select a pot, with adequate drainage holes, one size larger than the current pot.
  3. Partly fill with a layer of Yates Herb Potting Mix.
  4. To remove the plant from the old pot, hold the base of the plant firmly and tap the pot gently against the edge of a table to loosen the root ball.
  5. Position the plant in the pot, leaving a 1-2cm space below the rim for watering.
  6. Holding the plant in position, pour mix down and around the roots. Gently tap the bottom of the pot to settle the contents and add more mix if necessary.
  7. Lightly firm with fingers, then water.

General Care for Potted Herbs

Position

Most herbs prefer an open, sunny position. If growing in part shade, turn pot regularly to ensure even growth.

Watering

Do not overwater or apply water directly to foliage. Keep the mix moist during active growing periods. Water infrequently through winter. Mediterranean herbs, such as thyme, oregano and marjoram, prefer drier conditions. Allow to dry out thoroughly between waterings.

Feeding

Under normal* conditions, no additional feeding is required for 9 months. Thereafter, to maintain plant vigour, feed fortnightly during periods of active growth with Thrive All Purpose Soluble Fertiliser.

Tip

Control leaf-eating caterpillars with Yates Nature’s Way Dipel. It has no withholding period, so you can wash and eat your herbs straight away.
