Small black beetle (5-10mm)on rose buds and open blooms.Seems to be only on white or very pale varieties.

very healthy bushes with abundant blossom.
Your Rose Shield spray doesn't appear to make any difference. When spent flowers are disposed ov, the beetle reappears in new buds.

Answer: Dear Ross,

Rose buds can be attacked by a number of pests including the metalic flea beetle and nectar scarabs which move around between the petals.

Rose Shield contains a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide which acts as a nerve poison affecting both the central and peripheral nervous systems of insects.

You may need to re-apply the product at 14 day intervals to keep the pest population under control.
