Medium_image Eggplants went from perfect to brown, dry leather

My eggplants have gone from a really nice crop to really dry, hard brown marks that seem to start from as soon as they begin fruiting. We've had a few hot days but I didn't know if this was because of sun or heat or a disease?
My capsicums also aren't doing too well - they are in the same garden bed.
Thanks!

Answer: Hi Nicky,

Thanks for contacting us regarding your egg plants.

What happens is that the supply of calcium is not adequate to form the fruit properly. There are couple of reasons why this may occur. Lack of calcium available to the plant at certain times through its growth and moisture levels to the plant not maintained on a regular basis.

For next season, it’s a good idea to incorporate Yates Garden Lime and Yates Dynamic Lifter to the soil and ensure you water regularly throughout the season.

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to help the affected fruit, but usually not all the fruit is affected and you will still be able to enjoy your harvest.

Hope this helps and happy gardening.

Best Regards,
Louise
