Yates Supports Landcare

Yates have recently entered a partnership with Landcare Australia and are working together in developing the Landcare Gardening program. Landcare’s focus on loss of plant and animal habitat, and the impact of pest and weed invasion into remnant bushland will be of special interest to gardeners and Yates’ customers.

Landcare logos feature on new Yates products that dovetail into Landcare’s sustainable gardening aims. The first Yates products to carry the Landcare logo are those in Yates new Nature’s Way range. Yates newly released potting mixes, with their organic base, also feature the Landcare logo.

Yates is proud of its association with Landcare and looks forward to working with the organisation on many future gardening initiatives.

Defeat the Weeds!

Weeds threaten our national parks, native wildlife, and the farming sector, and at a cost of $4.7 billion each year, their financial impact to is huge. Research shows that 65% of our major weeds are garden escapees, which is why landcare are focussed on beating noxious weeds.

Two weeds which are particularly damaging to the environment are morning glory and asparagus weed. Click on the links below which will provide advice on removing these weeds:

The weeds epidemic is not just hitting gardens, but also the agricultural sector, with around half of Australia’s farmers now rating weeds as their worst problem on the land. And with weed management costing the farmers, that equates to higher food prices for everyone.

Landcare Australia highlights there are many easy ways plants end up being spread from gardens into bushland and farms. People can carry the seeds of weeds on clothes and shoes and seeds can also be carried by car tyres and tools and equipment. They can also wash down drains into waterways where they rapidly grow and spread. People are being urged never to dump weeds near waterways – especially aquarium plants.
