Yates Environmental Management Planning Grant

Landcare Australia’s Junior Landcare grants program will receive a boost due to the new School Environmental Management Planning (SEMP) Grant from Yates. The grants of $1,000 will be available quarterly during the school year and will help students produce a plan for sustainable environmental practices.

The SEMP grant will help kids to understand the interconnectedness of people, our natural environment and the built environment. This is becoming a problem, especially in urban environments where kids sometimes grow up feeling quite disconnected from the natural world. The SEMP grant encourages kids to examine their impacts on waste, climate change, water and biodiversity on the school as its own ecosystem and also on a global scale.

In order to be eligible schools or youth groups must first undertake an Environmental Management Plan of their school/clubhouse etc or plan to do so as part of their proposed project. Projects may include planning and creating school gardens, undertaking energy, water and waste audits, or environmental enterprises like breeding native fish or butterflies.

Junior Landcare teaches kids about environmental sustainability and restoration in a fun and hands-on learning environment. It is a great way to get kids connecting with and learning about nature, as well as encouraging them to get outdoors.
